You immerse yourself in different cultures and practice dealing with new situations. You combine these soft skills with the professional qualification as an engineer. You will study and live in the middle of the border triangle with its innovative regions Alsace, Black Forest and Northwestern Switzerland.
The Information Communication System (ICS) trinational bachelor's degree program is a cooperation between the FHNW School of Engineering, Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences in Germany and the Université de Haute-Alsace in France.
You complete one academic year at each university and also do an internship semester in industry. At the respective location, you will be fully integrated into the Information Communication Systems trinational degree program there.
International career opportunities
You will complete your studies with Bachelor certificates from each country. The three diplomas simplify your access to an international career or further education. With your language skills and cosmopolitanism, it will be easy for you to pursue an international career in applied research and development, project or product management.
The study program Information Communication System (ICS) trinational was very interesting: I learned how to settle in another country, in a new school system as well as in a new language. This program allowed me to be very flexible and to learn a lot of knowledge in electrical and information engineering.

Degree
The ICS trinational degree is structured in similar way as the degree programmes offered by the FHNW School of Engineering: From each module group, it is necessary to choose a minimum number of modules. This gives students considerable freedom to select the remaining modules required in accordance with their personal interests.
Module groups:
Mathematics and science
Electrical engineering, electronic engineering
Computer sciences
Information technology systems
Systems engineering
Practical application
Languages as well as humanities and sciences
The degree spans seven semesters (210 ECTS points); this period also includes an industrial internship for one semester (30 ECTS points). At each of the three universities, it is necessary to acquire at least 50 ECTS points – the standard number is around 60 ECTS points per year of study.
Graduates from Switzerland begin their degree at the FHNW School of Engineering in Brugg-Windisch, then switch to the University of Upper Alsace for the second year of study, finally completing their third year of study at the Furtwangen University. The bachelor's thesis is supervised by a lecturer from FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.
During your degree, you can choose a major. These specialisations focus on the latest research and offer the ideal basis for starting a career or a master's degree that builds on the respective student's undergraduate degree.
