Studying part-time

The Engineering and Management degree can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. Part-timers may or may not be in gainful employment. The various course models on offer enable students to tailor the study programme based on the amount of time they have available while in employment and/or bringing up a family.

When studying part-time while in employment, we recommend working in a qualified role for 60% of the time. Projects assigned as part of a job can be worked on within the framework of the degree programme. The extensive bachelor's thesis is particularly ideal for this. Credits are given for any previous knowledge gained in a university of applied sciences.

Teaching time

  • In the first semester, lectures take place on Monday at 3pm, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as well as on Thursday or Friday: Students with a technical educational background take the commercial convergence course on Thursdays and students with a commercial educational background take the technical convergence course on Fridays.
  • The evening classes all take place online.
  • From the second semester onwards, you can compile your timetable individually out of evening and day courses. The timetable that you create is valid for one semester. In the subsequent semester, you can reorganise your timetable – so you study in accordance with your changing requirements.
  • Expect 30 study hours per week (contact hours and self-study).
  • The degree takes four years instead of three years it would take studying full-time.. The teaching term extends over 33 weeks a year; there is no teaching for 19 weeks of the year.

The programme content is the same as for the full-time Engineering and Management degree with a total of 180 ECTS points. You can also specialise in digital engineering, supply chain & production management or product management. Upon completion of the degree programme, you will be awarded a Bachelor of Science FHNW in Engineering and Management.
