Head of BA Music Jazz

Arne Huber has been teaching double bass at the Jazzcampus since autumn 2017. He received the Worms Jazz Prize in 2015. The jury wrote:

"Arne Huber, born in Offenburg in 1977, studied jazz double bass with Thomas Stabenow in Mannheim and classical double bass in Freiburg. Even during his studies, he developed a busy concert schedule and has since performed with various ensembles at such renowned festivals as the London Jazz Festival, Elb Jazz Festival, Schaffhausen Jazz Festival, Jazz Baltica and the Winter Jazz Festival in Bern. The bassist and composer has also recorded over 25 CDs, two of which have been honoured with the German Record Critics' Award. On his latest album 'Pearls', recorded in 2014 with the Arne Huber Quartet and released in 2015 on the 'Meta Records' label, Arne Huber explores the depths of modern jazz with great skill and musical sensitivity. The sound of the album is characterised by a relaxed atmosphere, far removed from any gimmickry. Here is a composer at work who is at peace with himself and who places the needs of the composition above everything else in his sophisticated arrangements.
Huber can also be heard on the radio, where he regularly takes part in productions for SRF, WDR, BR, SR, HR, SRI and SWR. Huber has also been honoured with several awards. At the international jazz festivals in Hoeillart (Belgium) and Getxo (Spain), for example, he was awarded first prize in the ensemble category. Huber has been teaching at the Mannheim University of Music since 2011."

In 2017, Arne Huber's third album ("Im echten Leben") was released under his own name, like "Pearls" on 'Meta Records' and with his quartet, which includes Domenic Landolf (ts/bcl), Rainer Böhm (p) and Jochen Rückert (dr): "Sharp in its contours, soft in its colours and of delicate precision, each of the new songs is in itself the negotiation of a sound aesthetic anchored in classical music with a vocabulary that comes from jazz" (Wolf Kampmann). As a sideman, Huber can now be heard on around three dozen releases by musician friends. He plays with Dejan Terzic in the Domenic Landolf Trio, together with the saxophonist and Jorge Rossy in the Harvey Diamond Project, with Adrian Mears, Sarah Buechi, Bastian Stein and Kevin Chesham in Christoph Stiefel's Septet. He also recorded two albums with Claudio Strüby in 2012 and 2016 as part of the trio 'Thomas Lüthis Biwak'. Through all these collaborations, he has had close ties to the Swiss jazz scene for several years.
