Dr. Frederik Herman
Frederik Herman ist seit März 2018 Dozent und wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Pädagogischen Hochschule (Institut Primarstufe; Professur Allgemeine und Historische Pädagogik). 2001 schloss er die Primarlehrerausbildung in Belgien ab und studierte danach Erziehungswissenschaften an der Universität Ghent, wo er 2006 das Masterdiplom erlangt hat. Er promovierte 2010 an der Universität Leuven mit einer Dissertation zu „20th century school culture“. Nachdem er zwei Jahre an verschiedenen Institutionen als Dozent und Koordinator in der Lehrerinnen- und Lehrerausbildung tätig war, begann er 2013 an der Universität Luxemburg am Institute of Education and Society (InES) als wissenschaftlicher Projektmitarbeiter (Post-Doc) und später als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) zu arbeiten. Im Rahmen dieser Tätigkeit war er unter anderem in das Projekt „Fabricating Modern Societies: Industries of Reform as Educational Responses to Societal Challenges (ca.1880-1930)“ (FAMOSO) involviert. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte lagen dabei auf der industriellen „entrepreneurship“, der frühen experimentellen Psychologie (z.B. Ermüdungsstudien, Psychophysiologie, Arbeitswissenschaften), der beruflichen Orientierung und der Berufsbildung. Er ist zusammen mit Prof. Dr. Karin Priem (C²DH, Universität Luxemburg) Herausgeber der Anthologie „Fabricating Modern Societies: Education, Body and Mind in the ‚Age of Steel‘“ (submitted).
Frederik Herman fokussiert in seiner Forschung sozio-kulturelle, materielle und visuelle Geschichte(n) der Bildung. Seine Publikationen widmen sich Themen wie materielle Schulkultur (z.B. Biographieschreibung von Schulbänken, Schulgebäuden und Klassenzimmern); die Verschränkung von Körper, Geist und Technologien in Bildungsumgebungen (z.B. Mess- und Ausbildungsapparaturen im Kontext der Berufsorientierung und der Berufsbildung); Bildungsmentalitäten und Realitäten (z.B. Schuldisziplin); dem Visuellen und Materiellen als Quelle für historische Kulturwissenschaften. Zudem beschäftigt er sich in seiner Forschung mit kulturellem Lernen, kultureller “Literacy” und damit assoziierten Prozessen wie Erinnerungskulturen, Identitätskonstruktionen und “nation building”. Zu dieser Thematik gab er zusammen mit Dr. Sian Roberts (School of Education, University of Birmingham) ein Sonderheft der Zeitschrift Paedagogica Historica mit dem Titel „Adventures in Cultural Learning“ (2017).
