Welcome to FHNW!
FHNW Welcome Days from the perspective of two exchange students at the FHNW School of Life Sciences (HLS)
The FHNW Welcome Days for incoming students take place before the start of each semester, aiming to smooth their arrival in Switzerland. Exchange students Tereza Müllerová and Petra Tichá from Prague benefited from this programme, along with approximately 60 other international students.
"I felt warmly welcomed right from the beginning and the organisation was excellent. I was excited to get to know my fellow international students and curious about what awaited us" said Tereza.
Over the course of two days they were introduced to Switzerland and local customs. With a packed schedule of excursions to Olten and Basel, workshops on intercultural communication, interactive games and meals together, the exchange students immersed themselves in Switzerland and got to know each other. The presentation of the Swiss education system and an exciting visit to Roche were highlights for Tereza and Petra.
"I particularly enjoyed the visit to Roche, as my studies are closely related to the pharmaceutical field. This opportunity allowed me to establish contacts with potential employers, which I can use in the future when looking for a Master's thesis project" explained Petra.
The seamless collaboration between the Welcome Days organizing team and the HLS International Office facilitated an easy transition for both students into the HLS, thanks in part to the HLS International Student Guide and the International Office's introductory event.
Tereza and Petra have had a great start to their exchange semester and are grateful for the connections they were able to make during the Welcome Days. The event opened the door to future meetings, outings and mutual support during their stay.
We wish all our international students a successful and enjoyable stay in Switzerland!
