“Hybridity as a culture of making” at Design Challenges Barreira, Valencia, ES
Maya Ober and Nicole Schneider from the Institute of Industrial Design, presented in September at the “Design Challenges Conference” at Barreira Arte + Diseño Center in Valencia, Spain.
Under the topic “Hybridity as a culture of making”, their lecture explores what new approaches towards design education can be applied to foster a contextually based practice within a post-industrial context, using an experimental design course directed at industrial design undergraduate students as a study case. Understanding design as a fundamental trait of being human and a key factor influencing the quality of life they argue for design education informed by both practical and theoretical research to encourage cultural hybridity.
