Dr. Helen V. Pritchard wird Professor*in und Leiterin Forschung im IXDM

Wir freuen uns, Dr. Helen Pritchard ab 1. September 2022 an der Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst FHNW (HGK) als Professor*in zu begrüssen.

Die Findungskommission unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Claudia Perren hat sich für Prof. Dr. Helen Pritchard als Professor*in und Leiterin Forschung IXDM entschieden. Mitglieder der Findungskommission waren: Prof. Dr. Sarah Owens (Externe Expertin, ZHDK), Prof. Matthias Böttger (IXDM), Dr. Johannes Bruder (IXDM), Flavia Caviezel (IXDM), Laura Pregger (MOM), Naomin Sempach (Fachschaft), Christoph Haering (Fachhochschulrat) und Lars Bühler (HRV).

Prof. Dr. Helen Pritchard verfügt über mehr als 15 Jahre Erfahrung in akademischer Lehre, Forschung und Leadership und war zuvor Associate Professorin für queer-feministische Technikwissenschaft und digitales Design am i-DAT, School of Art, Architecture and Design an der Universität Plymouth, wo sie auch die Programmleitung des MRes Digital Art and Technology innehatte. Seit 2019 war sie zudem als Gastprofessorin für die Programme Design & Change sowie Visual Communication & Change an der Linnaeus Universität in Schweden tätig, wo sie Module in Multispecies-Design und Energy Prototyping unterrichtet. Zurzeit betreut sie sechs Doktorand:innen mit den Schwerpunkten Environment & Design, Queer VR, Black Feminist Poetics und Computational Media, die alle mit spekulativen und aktivistischen Praktiken arbeiten.

Prof. Helen Pritchards Forschung und Praxis befasst sich grundlegend mit sozialen und ökologischen Auswirkungen von Computing. Sie arbeitet auf alternative, kollektive Praktiken des Computing hin und entwirft Methoden für eine neue Politik der Medien, des queeren Überlebens und der ökologischen Praxis. Seit 2013 ist sie Mitglied von Citizen Sense, einer mehrfach ausgezeichneten Gruppe, die Technologien und Praktiken des environmental sensing mit zivilem Engagement verbindet und technologische Praxis neu denkt. Sie ist ausserdem Mitorganisatorin des Institute for Technology in the Public Interest TITiPi - ein Kollektiv, das Räume für die Diskussion und Artikulation von Technologien im öffentlichen Interesse schafft.

Prof. Dr. Helen Pritchard hat einen Doktortitel (PhD) in Geography, Design, and Computing von der Queen Mary University of London (2018), zwei Master of Research (MRes) in Digital Innovation (2011) von der University of Lancaster und in Digital Art and Technology (2010) von der University of Plymouth sowie einen Bachelor Abschluss (BA) in Performance Writing and Visual Arts (2003) vom Dartington College of Arts.

Ihre Arbeiten hat Sie im Rahmen von Festivals und Konferenzen präsentiert wie z.B.: MACBA (ESP), Hangar (ESP), FACT (UK), Furtherfield (UK), Tetem (NL), Sonic Acts (NL), Tate Exchange (UK), transmediale (Germany), DA Fest International festival of Digital Art (Bulgaria), Spacex Gallery (UK), Microwave Festival (Hong Kong), ACA Florida, (USA), transmodern festival (USA), Arnolfini Online (UK), Foto Colectania (ESP), Constant (BE), ACM SIGGRAPH (USA), ALT-CPH (DEN), NEoN Digital Arts Festival (UK).

Sie ist ausserdem Mitherausgeberin von DataBrowser 06: Executing Practices (2018) und Science, Technology and Human Values: Sensors and Sensing Practices (2019). und den in Kürze erscheinenden Sammelband über queer-feministische Technowissenschaft - Plants By Numbers (2023).

Die HGK setzt in ihrer aktuellen Entwicklung verstärkt auf zeitgemässe, qualitativ hochstehende Studiengänge, die Forschung, Lehre und Kollaborationen stärken. Diversität, Nachhaltigkeit und aktuelle gesellschaftliche Transformationen spielen dabei eine grosse Rolle. Mit Prof. Dr. Helen Pritchard hat die HGK eine weitere engagierte Professorin gewinnen können, die in diesem Themenspektrum hervorragend zu agieren weiss.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Helen V. Pritchard to the FHNW Academy of Art and Design (HGK) as a professor starting 1 September 2022.

The search committee under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Claudia Perren has decided in favor of Prof. Dr. Helen Pritchard. Prof. Dr. Helen Pritchard has over 15 years of experience in academic research, teaching and leadership and was previously Associate Professor in queer feminist technoscience & digital design i-DAT and programme lead for MRes Digital Art and Technology at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, University of Plymouth. Since 2019 she acted as a Visiting Associate Professor for the Design +Change and Visual Communication +Change programmes at Linnaeus University, Sweden where she taught modules in multispecies design and energy prototyping. She is currently supervising six doctoral candidates with focus on environment and design, queer VR, Black Feminist Poetics, Computational media - all of whom work with speculative or activist practices.

Prof. Helen Pritchard's research and practice is fundamentally concerned with the social and environmental justice implications of computing. She works collectively to propose and design for a different computing and to develop methods to uphold a politics of queer survival, and environmental practice. Since 2013, she has been a member of Citizen Sense, an award-winning group exploring the relationship between technologies and practices of environmental sensing and civic engagement. She is also a co-organizer of the Institute for Technology in the Public Interest (TITiPi), which brings communities together to hold accountable infrastructures and create spaces to articulate what technologies might be in the public interest.

She is also the co-editor of DataBrowser 06: Executing Practices (2018), Science, Technology and Human Values: Sensors and Sensing Practices (2019) and the forthcoming anthology of queer feminist technoscience – Plants By Numbers (2023). The FHNW Academy of Art and Design is increasingly focusing on contemporary, high-quality degree programs that strengthen collaborative research and teaching and promote diversity and sustainability in current social transformations.
