How do I fund my OA publication?

Open Access has changed the funding model of publications. Instead of the traditional access fees (subscription fees), journals and publishers are increasingly charging fees for publication. Various funding sources are available to cover these costs.

What financial support does the FHNW provide?

The FHNW pays the fees (APCs) for publications of its members in full or in part.

Procedure

As corresponding author, you must indicate your affiliation to the FHNW in the submission system and use your institutional e-mail address. As soon as your article has been accepted, you will receive an e-mail with a link that will allow you to complete the publication process by selecting various publication options. Confirm that you would like to publish your article Open Access and select a Creative Commons licence. The FHNW library recommends CC BY 4.0. If you do not wish to publish your article Open Access, select the appropriate option.

Read&Publish Contracts in Switzerland

The Read&Publish contracts are transformative agreements with the major scientific publishers on a national level; they are intended to help reach the goals of the National Open Access Strategy. The transition to Open Access should be achieved in a cost-neutral manner by reallocating existing acquisition funds. The contracts cover regulations for reading access as well as the costs of OA publishing.

Publishing Gold or Hybrid OA usually causes costs for the authors (Article Processing Charges, APC). Based on corresponding contracts with the publishers, these costs are covered for FHNW members under certain conditions. The publication fees are covered in full, provided that the national quota made available for this purpose has not yet been exhausted.
