François Joubert-Caillet is a viola da gamba player, following in the footsteps of early music pioneers by rediscovering forgotten pieces as well as transcending boundaries between genres with interdisciplinary projects (early and new music, electronics, improvisation, contemporary dance, etc.).
After his studies in recorder, piano and double bass, François Joubert-Caillet studied viola da gamba with Paolo Pandolfo at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he also learned baroque improvisation from Rudolf Lutz. He was awarded first prize and the audience prize at the international chamber music competition in Bruges.
He taught at the Conservatoire de Nancy and the Musikschule Konservatorium Bern and is teacher for viola da gamba at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg.
He has played with numerous ensembles with whom he has recorded for the labels Ricercar, Harmonia Mundi, Ambronay, K617, ZigZag Territoires, Arcana, Winter&Winter, Aparté, Glossa, Sony, Naïve, etc.
François Joubert-Caillet has been director of the ensemble L'Acheron since 2009, with which he performs in various formations, with a focus on the viol consort. His CDs have been released by Ricercar-Outhere, notably Le Nymphe di Rheno by Johannes Schenck as a duo with Wieland Kuijken and the complete recording of Marin Marais' Pièces de Viole (five books/boxes with over 600 pieces on 20 CDs), which was awarded a Diapason d'Or, Choc de Classica and Echo Klassik.
He also created Albus Fair Editions in 2021, an independent, fair and eco-friendly publishing house, where he published his first opus for viola da gamba and electronics, Isola.
Last release : Sainte-Colombe le fils Pièces de Viole by Ricercar-Outhere
