Many artists consider research as an external quest for knowledge, inspiration and truth. Reading books, essays, articles, visiting exhibitions, watching films are definitely beneficial ways of widening one's perspective and a good pathway to enlightenment. But what many often overlook is the search within for answers related to art and beauty.
In this course we dive into all facets of research through talks and exercises on inspiration and intention, two important aspects of artistic research and storytelling. At the same time we integrate a critical approach to subjects and themes at the intersection of gender, race history and ecology.
Sometimes as we navigate these internal terrains, we confront the hidden truths nestled within ourselves, grappling with the realities of political, sociological, and cultural influences/oppressions that shape our stories. Unveiling radical truths about our society is not an obligation for an artist, yet this course also tries to respond to these questions for students who are willing to talk about it.
Working with a commitment to individual focus, we will collectively develop a methodology tailor-made to all students present.
