International Welcome Week
8 to 11 September 2020
The fifth FHNW International Welcome Week took place from 8th to 11th September. 38 exchange students from 15 different countries met a week before the start of the semester to get to know their host country better.
Every year, the Welcome Week offers a varied program that introduces students to Swiss culture, economics, politics and social structures. Whether a boat trip on the river Aare, a discussion with Swiss politicians or a hike to the Sälischlössli in Olten, the Welcome Week gives a first impression of Switzerland, brings incoming students together and helps them relax before the first day at a foreign university.
"I really enjoyed the International Welcome Week. It was a great opportunity to meet other exchange students and find new friends. I especially enjoyed the trip to Bern, the discussion with Swiss politicians and the international workshop. This week provided me with an insight into Swiss culture, which is very valuable when you start living in Switzerland."
Barbora Kolrosovà, HLS double degree student from UCT Prague
This year the students listened to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Falko Schlottig, who spoke about the School of Life Sciences and the attractive location of the Muttenz campus in Switzerland's leading pharmaceutical region.
"The welcome week was really great! It's good to make some friends who are in the same situation as you are. Thanks to them my first weeks in Muttenz were much more enjoyable. I can only recommend this event to all new incoming students."
Jakub Kolář, HLS double degree student from UCT Prague
The 38 students have now started the semester abroad at "their" university. We wish them all a successful and pleasant stay in Switzerland!
