Double Degree with Linköping University
For students with the specialisation Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Organic and Supramolecular Chemistry and Bioanalytics.
Selected Students enrolled in the MSc in Life Sciences will have the possibility to study one additional semester in Chemistry at Linköping University (LiU) and thus obtain two diplomas. The combination of degrees is especially helpful for students aiming to pursue a PhD.
Programme Details
After having successfully completed the first two semesters of the MSc in Life Sciences, students of the FHNW School of Life Sciences can spend the third semester (autumn or spring semester) at Linköping University.
MSc Thesis
During the fourth semester the MSc thesis work is conducted under the following conditions:
- if performed under the auspices of LiU, 30–45 ECTS (1 – 1.5 semesters)
- if performed under the auspices of the HLS, 40 ECTS (8 months)
The thesis involves a research project and will be jointly supervised and evaluated.

Application process
Apply for the double degree programme by March 15th (for autumn semester) respectively September 15th (for spring semester) to Prof. Dr. Georg Lipps. A more detailed application process can be found on the MSc Moodle platform. Selected students will then be asked to submit an application to the LiU by April 15th resp. October 15th.
Financial Support
Double degree students are eligible for the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP) and may receive financial support.
Tuition Fee
Exchange students are not required to pay tuition fees at UCT. They stay registered at the FHNW and continue to pay their tuition to the FHNW.
Linköping University
Linköping University is one of the biggest universities in Sweden and is located in the city of Linköping. The medium sized city lies about 200 km southwest of Stockholm. The university houses 4’000 employees and 32’000 students including 2’400 foreign students.
As in Switzerland, the academic year at LiU is devided into two semesters: autumn and spring. Start of studies of the double degree is either September (autumn) or January (spring). For the current semester dates please consult the semester periods at LiU.
