Florian Vogt studied Music Theory, Music Education, Early Music Theory, and Mathematics in Freiburg i. Brsg., Rochester (NY), and Basel. He earned his PhD from the University of Freiburg with a dissertation on the music theory of Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel.
After various teaching assignments in Music Theory, Practical Piano for Music Education, and Opera Accompaniment at the music universities in Freiburg and Trossingen, he served as a lecturer in Music Theory and Ear Training at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg from 2010 to 2017. From 2006 to 2012, he was a research assistant at the Department of Musicology at the University of Freiburg. Since 2017, he has been a professor of Early Music Theory at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (FHNW).
His research interests focus on analysis, the theory and practice of improvised counterpoint, as well as the history of music theory. In addition, he is active as a pianist and basso continuo player.
