Laboratory
The analytical specialisations of the Department of Instrumental Analysis are divided into three laboratories: LC-MS, GC-MS and NMR.
The LC-MS area covers a particularly broad scope of applications. Small to large analytes with a wide range of chemical properties are determined. From sample preparation and development to method validation (if requested by the customer), analysis and evaluation, we analyse substance classes.
Research
In addition to the three main areas of our laboratory also has the following analytical instruments:
- Gas chromatography (GC) with FID and WLD
- Head-space GC
- HPLC and UHPLC with conventional detectors (DAD, ELSD, CAD, ECD, FLD)
- Atomic spectroscopy (AAS) and ICP-OES
- Automated HPTLC system and a TLC-MS interface
Focal points of analysis
Our analysis specialisms cover a wide range of topics. In addition to the development and validation of analytical methods, we also analyse main components as well as impurities and residues. For our customers we also work on problems that deal with structure elucidation, carrying out both targeted and non-targeted analyses. The processing of various matrices (natural substances, blood to pharmaceutical products) and associated problems are a key part of our work.
External collaborations
We work with companies and other universities, on internal projects across groups as well as with students. Further main topics are:
- Analytical consulting
- Literature and patent research
- Metabolic profiling (method development including sample preparation, differentiation, mass spectrometry with statistical data analysis)
- Protein and peptide analysis
- Metabolites and xenobiotics in body fluids
- Flavourings etc.
