AAV Production

Viral vectors are virus-derived particles that are capable to deliver genetic material to patient cells. Some of them, including AAV vectors, can target specific cell types to deliver their encapsulated genetic cargo. AAV vectors can be generally seen as the gold standard for the use of gene therapies to treat patients. At the BPT, we use cultured suspension cells and carry out transient transfection in benchtop bioreactors for the production of AAV vectors. Besides classical batch reactions, we also implemented continuous processes which profit from extended operation times as well as better processes control. This is combined with a broad variety of in-line, on-line and at-line sensors to measure parameters such as gas contents, density of cells, their viability, or metabolites to understand and control the processes.
