Patrick Werder is currently completing his master’s degree in biotechnology while working part-time as a research assistant in the Bioprocess Technology Group at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) in Muttenz. In this role, he has participated in several research projects, including in the development of a plasmid platform which has been instrumental in improving the efficiency and scalability of transient gene expression workflows in the laboratory. In addition, Patrick has been involved in the optimization and upscaling of production and purification protocols for a variety of protein production processes.
Patrick is also an active member of the ISPE SC Muttenz, serving as a board member and organizing various networking events with the industry for the students. His efforts have helped to bridge the gap between academia and industry, facilitating communication and collaboration between the two and enabling students to build valuable connections and gain insights into the pharmaceutical sector while providing the industry with access to a pool of talented individuals.
Previously, Patrick earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, also at the FHNW. Through his studies, he gained valuable experience in chemical process development and came in touch with a wide range of topics, including the extraction and processing of natural and aroma compounds. Prior to his academic pursuits, he gained several years of experience during his training as a chemical technician at Novartis Pharma AG. In this role, he worked for the large-scale production of active pharmaceutical ingredients.
