Franka Ebob Enow Ebai, representing the Digital Trust Competence Centre in Florence, delivered a presentation on the topic “Quantum Computing as an Uprising Topic for Business Students in Higher Educational Institutions”

19. Juli 2024

The 14th edition of the Future of Education Conference was held in Florence on July 20th and 21st, bringing together over 200 educators and researchers from more than 30 countries. One of the key presentations featured our research paper on the relevance of quantum computing (QC) to businesses and educational institutions.

The paper was co-authored by Prof. Dr. Bettina Schneider, Franka Ebob Enow Ebai, and our student team: Adina Bächli, Richard Elsasser, Sven Peier, and Stefan Stanic. Franka delivered the presentation, highlighting its three main objectives:

  • To underline QC’s relevance for business
  • To identify the gap in QC educational offerings for business students
  • To highlight the barriers to QC adoption in business and education

The results showed that, despite the relevance of QC for business students, current offerings in higher education institutions are primarily geared towards those with engineering and physics backgrounds. Additionally, the main barriers to the adoption of QC in both business and educational domains include a lack of sufficient technical expertise, the complexity of the topic, and budget and time constraints.

The authors strongly advocated for the introduction of QC to business students, as they could play a crucial role in making informed investment decisions about the technology. They recommended offering the course as a short-term workshop to attract and retain student interest.
