During manned space flight, pharmaceuticals can end up in the human waste, predominantly in the urine and finally in the wastewater. Due to financial costs constraints, load of goods including water is limited in spacecraft. Water has to be recycled and must meet drinking water standards. The Corvini group is developing 3D-printed biofilms to remove pharmaceuticals from wastewater with high ammonia content.
