Dr. Johannes Bruder
Head of Research IXDM
Johannes Bruder is the Head of Institute of Experimental Design and Media Culture (IXDM) ad interim.
Johannes’s research targets infrastructures, technologies, and media that support epistemologies & empiricisms in art, design, science and their (sub)cultural distortions. He is determined to find alternative modes of being faithful to experience in observing, sensing, representing and exhibiting.
His current research zooms in on media studies of psychic life and interactions between psychologiy, social science and computing / AI. His first book “Cognitive Code. Post-Anthropocentric Intelligence and the Infrastructural Brain” (2019) is based on fieldwork in neuroscience laboratories and provides deep insights into the bio-politics of contemporary machine learning.
Johannes has a strong interest in experimenting with research methods, knowledge practices, alternative pedagogies and publication formats that unsettle disciplinary paradigms and render research in the humanities operational in real-world contexts. He is affiliated with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology / Milieux at Concordia University Montréal, and a co-founder of https://d4disruptingdesign.net and awalkingcontradiction.org.
