Collage application
Final report on the Lehrfonds-funded project
Project duration: 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2020
Project description
The Learning Lab Arts and Design (LLAD) aims to record and reflect on learning and teaching at the Institute of Art and Design Education (IADE). Students’ preparatory work and projects are currently stored on the Institute’s server. The files are saved without metadata, and are stored inconsistently in terms of content and form. This makes it very time-consuming to access them, and little information is exchanged at the data level. Students are only able to find projects that match their own interests with the help of their teachers, as those projects – assuming that they are indeed stored on the Institute’s server or in HGK’s integrated catalogue –do not contain the necessary metadata. Lecturers also predominantly favour oral communication when it comes to exchanging information.
LOM (Learning Object Metadata) is an international standard used to describe digital content based on keywords. This facilitates the exchange of data in the most seamless way possible. Educa.ch has developed the LOM-CH standard in respect of the Swiss education system.
The “Collage Application” project will use a prototype web application to compile the available data based on the LOM-CH standard and make that data available to students. The app’s interactive touchscreen serves as a teaching tool to make the connections between subject areas and interests visible.
