ABGESAGT _ Introducing Cello Mapp
Di 17.3.20, 19 Uhr, Musik-Akademie Basel, Z. 6-301
The Cello Mapp, an extension to the popular webpage www.cellomap.com, is a smart phone app that helps cellists and composers find cello harmonics and multiphonics. I will demonstrate how to use the tool and discuss the process of building it, and the background research into multiphonics that informed the resulting fingering charts. In addition, I will introduce the recent publication of related scientific results about string multiphonics in Tempo journal (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/tempo), and the many unanswered musical and scientific questions that are yet to be explored.
Ellen Fallowfield is an active performer and researcher in the field of contemporary music. She studied cello at the Hochschule für Musik, Basel, Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, and KUG, Graz. She created the Cello Mapp smartphone application and webpage www.cellomap.com during research fellowships at the Hochschule für Musik, Basel sponsored by the SNF and Maja Sacher Foundation and is currently researching contemporary cello Etudes at the same institution, funded by an SNF Spark fellowship.
