Course Topic
Python is one of the most popular programming languages of data science, used in natural language processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. This three-day Python programming course is for social scientists who want to learn how to analyze and visualize data with Python. No programming experience needed.
Course Objectives
The course aims to give a short introduction to data analysis using python, tailored for social scientists. The course gives a practical overview on the basic data types and structures in python with hands-on exercises. After learning the basic syntax, participants will focus on data analysis and visualization using the most popular python libraires pandas, seaborn and matplotlib.
Day 1. Introduction to python
Day 2. Data Analysis in pandas
Day 3. Data Visualization and Statistical Analysis
After finishing the course participants will be able to:
- Read different data formats into python.
- Perform data cleaning and data structuring.
- Generate descriptive statistics.
- Visualize data and comparing variables/metrics.
- Conduct multivariate statistical analysis.
- Reflect on potential data loss, and can identify signs of inaccurate data.
Working method in the course
Hands-on exercises and practical tips will help you start your journey in the world of Python. Every morning we will dive into a new topic, and in the afternoons, we will practice it in groups. Your own datasets are welcomed to be explored.
